Statement of Qualifications for IRB GIC Members

The Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (IRB) is an independent administrative tribunal performing quasi-judicial functions. The IRB is the largest administrative tribunal in Canada. Each year it could render approximately 50,000 decisions. Every aspect of the IRB's work touches on the life and liberty of the people who appear before it.

Members of the Refugee Protection Division (RPD) and Immigration Appeal Division (IAD) are appointed to the Board by the Governor in Council (GIC).

As independent single decision-makers, RPD and IAD members conduct hearings in a fair and expeditious manner and render accurate, timely decisions on immigration appeals and refugee claims.
