Paul Aterman was appointed to the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada on February 5, 2015. He has extensive administrative law experience in the fields of human rights, immigration and refugee matters and workers' compensation. Prior to his appointment he was a Vice chair with the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario. He also worked as Director General, Strategic Policy and Research in the Intergovernmental Affairs secretariat of the Privy Council Office from 2007-2012. He was a decision-maker and senior manager at the IRB between 1994 and 2007. Mr. Aterman holds an undergraduate degree from Oxford University and a Juris Doctor from the University of Toronto. He is a member of the Ontario Bar.
